Q3. How do I send a fax with HylaFAX 4.2.0 RC2 ?

From a Linux command line using the "sendfax" utility.

A typical command line would be "sendfax -n - m -d 01373801017 "T22 13 page test.TIF" -h ttyS4@localhost

Where:
    -n    specifies no cover page
    -m   specifies "fine" mode (196 lines/inch)
-d    specifies the number to dial
-h    specifies a particular modem on a particular server to use, if not specified the first available device will be used.

The compression used for a call will be assumed to be the maximum, which for Hylafax is 2D-MMR.
If the answering fax machine doesn't support this protocol, the call is ended and re-dialled using the negotiated compression.
HylaFAX keeps a track of telephone numbers and compression settings, so this only happens on the first attempt to a new number/machine.

The speed is also negotiated to the maximum, which is 33600 (V34).
This may be stepped down as the call progresses depending on line conditions.

To determine how a fax send proceeded, check out the appropriate log file in /var/spool/hylafax/log.

A useful broadcast option is "-z filename" which allows a file of destinations (one per line) to be submitted.
