Hylafax loads when the system is booted, so a fax can be received any time once installed and configured.
It's important that a faxgetty process is running on the port to receive (see installation below) as this process is able to determine that a call is incoming and begin a fax receive.
When a fax is received a notification is generally made via email to the fax admin account.
The actual received fax image is stored as a .TIFF file in the Hylafax spool area, which by default is "/var/spool/hylafax/spool/recvq".
There is no GUI front end to Hylafax (unless a Windows client is used), so viewing the received files is usually a case of using a .TIFF viewer to manually open the file. If Samba is being run to make the Linux file system accessible across the network, then Windows Imaging can be used.
